Vets Now for Work-Life Balance

At Vets Now, we understand there’s life beyond the typical 9–5. If you’re looking for change or keen to further develop your ECC skills, this part-time opportunity in Gateshead could be the perfect fit.

We’re seeking a Part Time Veterinary Surgeon to work a 6-week rolling rota, with shifts made up of:

Backshifts:
• 18:00–00:00, Monday to Sunday

Day shifts:
• Saturday: 12:00–18:30
• Sunday: 08:30–18:30

You’ll also take a fair share of Bank Holidays, providing variety and balance within the rota.

This role offers a structured approach to out-of-hours work while maintaining time for life outside the clinic.

Vets Now for Team Support

In our Gateshead clinic, you’ll be supported by a highly experienced team including ECC-certified Veterinary Surgeons, skilled ECC nurses, and knowledgeable Animal Care Assistants and Receptionists. You’ll benefit from both formal support throughout your professional journey and informal day-to-day collaboration within a close-knit team.

Vets Now for Enhanced Rewards and Benefits

Your wellbeing matters to us, which is why we offer a comprehensive benefits package including, but not limited to:

• £1,500 CPD allowance plus 35 paid hours (pro rata)
• Enhanced company sick, maternity, paternity and adoption pay
• Private medical insurance
• Seven weeks’ annual leave (pro rata)
• Up to 50% discounted staff pet care

This includes a 1-week hands-on practical training course, followed by 20 hours of flexible, case-based e-learning, completed at your own pace. This blended learning approach ensures you start your role with confidence and develop the skills needed to thrive in a fast-paced ECC environment.

As the UK’s leading pet emergency service, we have a route to an exciting career in emergency and critical care for veterinary surgeons and registered veterinary nurses, no matter where you are in your career.

Vets Now was founded by Richard Dixon, a veterinary surgeon who understood the pressures of being on-call which also trying to maintain a good quality of life.

Today, almost two decades since Richard did his first out-of-hours shift, we’re still just as passionate about emergency and critical care and our clinics are all managed by people who have worked as frontline vets or vet nurses.

In an emergency, pet owners want to know they’ve got the experts on board. And so do we.
