Permanent or 12-month Fixed Term Contract

Now for emergency and critical care at Vets Now Hemel Hempstead

At Vets Now Hemel Hempstead, our committed team of vet surgeons, registered veterinary nurses, animal care assistants and receptionists work hard through the nights, weekends and bank holidays to ensure sick and injured pets get the very best care when daytime vets are closed.

We’re looking for Vet Surgeons to join our team, with the opportunity to choose between a permanent position or a 12-month fixed term contract.

Now for work-life balance

We appreciate that one size doesn’t fit all, which is why we offer different rota options depending on the type of contract you’re looking for, and we’re also open to part-time applicants.

Permanent

This role consists of working an average of 40 hours per week across weekday nights, weekend days and nights on a 1:2 rotation, as well as a share of bank holidays – never working more than three nights in a row. The rota pattern will rotate on a four-week basis.

12-month Fixed Term Contract

Also working an average of 40 hours per week and rotating every four weeks, the FTC offers two rota options:

Option 1: Weekday nights, weekend days and nights on a 1:2 rotation, as well as a share of bank holidays – never working more than three nights in a row.

Option 2: Every Sunday 08:30–19:30, plus two weekday nights per week. The exact weekday nights are flexible, allowing you to find a pattern that works around your commitments.

Both FTC patterns include a share of bank holidays.

Whether you’re looking for a long-term career with Vets Now or a fixed-term opportunity with greater choice around your rota, we can offer an option to suit where you are in your career.

Now for an experienced ECC team

You’ll be joining an experienced and supportive clinical team, including multiple nurses who hold VNCertECC certificates. Our vet team brings a wealth of ECC experience, with one of our vets holding a PGCert in ECC and another currently completing their Medicine Certificate.

With a 99% private caseload and high levels of pet insurance, you’ll have the opportunity to manage a varied and clinically rewarding caseload while continuing to develop your emergency and critical care skills.

Now for rewards and benefits

Our benefits package includes, but is not limited to:

  • Private medical insurance
  • Seven weeks pro rata annual leave
  • Up to 50% discounted staff pet care
  • Professional membership fees
